Museum of London: Beasts of London
Beasts of London Exhibition, Museum of London, 5 April 2019 - 5 January 2020
Toby was part of a team working to create an immersive experience at the Museum of London. The concept was to explore and showcase the ‘beasts’ that have figured in London throughout history.
Toby was fortunate enough to be the video designer for an entire section of the exhibition. His task was to present animals throughout the Roman period in a 360 cylindrical projection-mapped room in a graphic novel style. He worked closely with graphic designer, Pete Starling, who provided beautiful still images for the script, and 5-minute narrative voiced by celebrities Joe Pasquale and Pam Ferris.
Toby animated the still images using Photoshop and After Effects software, merging each section into one coherent moving sequence. He worked closely with Guildhall School of Music and Drama’s Acting and Electronic Music students, who voiced some of the characters and created the scores to go with the visuals, and also the Design Realisation crew who created the set.
The finished result was spectacular and very immersive, the audience, seated on a column in the middle of the room, being engulfed by projections 3.5m high in all directions
