Job Role: Designer/ Assistant Engineer
Toby McManus was part of the Video Design for Live Performance team invited take part in the finale for the opening night of the Lightpool Festival. Light Odyssey was a projection-mapping event accompanying music played by the world famous, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.
Our task was to create the show-stopper for the evening, after projections by five other design studios. VDLP designed the final 10 minutes of the show. The visuals were paired with Benjamin Britten’s Four Interludes: Storm and Moonlight.
Toby designed the final third of ‘Moonlightl' as it becomes tranquil and picturesque and then the beginning climatic part of the ‘Storm’. He created a nightsky out at sea, with constellations erupting, projected across the grand and intricate Blackpool Empress Ballroom. Storm lights visuals were achieved by particle simulations envisioning the swirls of the sea crashing against one another.
